It's normal to feel a little self-conscious when you have to smile for a picture while wearing braces. This is why our Langley orthodontists are sharing with you some tips on how you can take a good picture with braces.
You might be feeling a bit insecure right now about the appearance of your braces, however, in the future, you will want to remember this time. Below we have listed some tips that will help you look good in pictures to help you look back on the time you had braces.
Choose braces that are less noticeable.
Orthodontic treatments have made a lot of advancements over the years, and there are many low-profile orthodontic treatment options available for modern-day patients.
A good example of this is self-ligating braces. They don’t require elastics or bands and have smaller brackets than traditional braces.
Ceramic braces have similar benefits. Even though the brackets are slightly larger in size than standard braces, they are made of tooth-coloured ceramic which means that they can blend in with your teeth very well.
Invisalign could be another good option. Invisalign aligners aren't made of metal at all. Instead, they are made from clear, BPA-free plastic, which makes them appear virtually invisible when being worn.
Any of the treatment options above can help make your braces look less obvious in pictures so that your face and your smile can be the focus.
Add some colour!
Instead of downplaying your braces, consider them an accessory and highlight them with colour!
Traditional metal braces have elastic bands attached to the brackets that have to be changed out on a routine basis.
These elastics come in almost every colour of the rainbow, letting you change up your look, coordinate your braces with an outfit you’re planning for a special event, or compliment your eye colour or skin tone.
Practice Makes Perfect
If you know you’ll be having your picture taken soon, designate some time to practice smiling with your new braces. Stand in front of the mirror and smile at yourself, from different angles.
You can also try taking a few selfies, or have a friend or family member take some pictures of you.
Doing things like this will help you become more accustomed to the way your smile looks with braces.
Just getting used to your new look could really help you overcome your lack of confidence regarding your new smile, and nothing makes for a better picture than a big and confident smile!
Your braces are going to play a big role in your appearance for the coming months and years.
It will be in your best interest to work on feeling as confident and comfortable with your smile as possible, both now, and in the future when you’re looking back at pictures of yourself during your time with braces. We hope these tips help!
