A common reason why people choose Invisalign clear aligners is that they can be removed to eat, and don't require any dietary restrictions. Today, our Langley orthodontists discuss some of the things you have to know about eating during your Invisalign treatment.
It's easy to eat with Invisalign! The clear aligners can be removed, and there aren't any dietary restrictions. You just have to take them out to eat and drink anything you'd like as long as you wear them for the required amount of time every day.
Eating With Invisalign
Unlike traditional metal braces that have a list of food restrictions (because food can get stuck in brackets and wires), Invisalign can be removed so you are able to keep eating and drinking all of your favourite foods.
Just remember to take your aligners out before consuming anything that isn't cold water. Drinking sugary, dark drinks while wearing your aligners could lead to plaque buildup. Hot beverages such as coffee and tea can stain or warp your aligners.
Rinsing & Brushing After Eating
Before putting your aligners back in after eating or drinking, you must clean them and brush your teeth first. Food can get trapped between your teeth and clear aligners, which can cause damage and tooth decay.
If you are unable to brush after eating or drinking, you should at least rinse your mouth and the aligners with water before putting them back in.
Putting Your Aligners Back On
Invisalign aligners should be worn for at least 20 hours a day so be mindful of the total time you have them out for every day. The idea is to keep them in as long as possible to get the best treatment results possible.
